Buying a CSA Share

Thank you for your interest in our 2013 CSA season.  Membership is now full, and we are no longer accepting new members for 2013.  Please email us with questions.  We hope to see you at our Winneshiek Farmers Market stand beginning in June.

Your Patchwork Green Farmers, Erik and Sara

Patchwork Green Farm has been providing fresh garden produce to our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members in Winneshiek County for 15 years. Members capitalize our business by purchasing a share in the spring and we fulfill our promise by bringing the best of the season to our members' tables. This year, we are offering two types of delivery options:

  1. Traditional Delivery Share (bi-weekly delivery)

  2. Market Share

Traditional Delivery Share
Members pick up a bag full of seasonal produce every other Saturday at a drop off point in Decorah.  We fill each bag with our widest selection of seasonal vegetables and herbs.  Members also receive a newsletter with each bag.  Eleven deliveries are made from May through October to a central site near Phelps Park in Decorah. Cost of the traditional share is $300.

Bags are packed each week with 7-14 different fresh vegetables and herbs, cured storage vegetables and occasional cut flowers.  Your bag will be packed with items that should be eaten within a few days (lettuce, peas, Brussels sprouts), some that will keep well for a week (tomatoes, basil, peppers), and some that will be good well into a second week (carrots, sweet potatoes, cabbage).

Can I Split a Share?
If the quantity of vegetables per week is daunting, we encourage you to split the share with a friend.  Partnering with a friend or neighbor can make the question of what to do with the produce when you are on summer vacation easier; you can regularly split the bounty so that you have the perfect quantity all season long; and you can trade peppers for eggplant to make your favorite casserole!

When are deliveries?
Traditional Delivery Shares will be in Decorah on Saturdays from 7:30 - 11:30 AM.  There will be a May 21 delivery, and bi-weekly deliveries June 23 to October 27.  We can pro-rate the cost if you will be gone for two or more deliveries in a row.  We will send a confirmation letter and a list of the delivery dates once we receive your payment.

Market Share

In 2013, you can choose the level of participation that best suits your family: $150, $225, or $300.  We will create an account for you to use at Farmers’ Market, beginning with a $160, $240 or $320 balance.  (This is one of the perks of being a Patchwork Green Farm member. The Traditional Share members get $320 worth of produce.)

You can then shop at our Farmers’ Market stall and we will keep a running balance of the money in your account.  We will send out a weekly e-newsletter with information about what we are bringing to market, farm news and seasonal recipes. We'll also email an account balance statement each month.  There is no refund for any unspent balance at the end of October.

This share option may be best for customers who go to Farmers’ Market regularly. You get to choose the types and quantities of vegetables and herbs that work best for your family, and you have the option of going to market for fresh produce up to twice a week.  And, if you are out of town for any portion of the season, there is no worry about finding someone to pick up your produce for you.

We’ll be at Farmers’ Market in downtown Decorah from June through the end of October.  We will keep you abreast of news on the farm, freshest pick of the week and favorite recipes throughout the season on our email. We’ll contact you in June when the first Patchwork Green Farm vegetables will be coming to the Market.
